Dress Code
We establish a dress code for Xavier Charter School so as to model, and instruct students on how to appropriately dress modiestly for a business profession. School is our students “job”, and personal appearance does influence behavior and performance. With this in mind, only the following are allowed:
1. Apparel advertising tobacco, alcohol, illegal substances, and/or offensive slogans are not acceptable attire at school-sponsored activities. Clothes making statements with sexual innuendoes are not allowed.
The wearing of clothing, jewelry, or a style of grooming that is identified with membership in a gang will not be tolerated in school or at any school-sponsored activity. Apparel that interferes with or endangers self or others while participating in school or school sponsored-activities is not allowed.
Dress will not be worn that causes or is likely to cause disruption of the educational process.
The final decision as to the safety or unsuitability of the clothing, hair or jewelry will be left up to the Principal or designee.
2. Hair must be clean, and neat. Only natural colors are allowed. No distracting or radical hairstyles.
3. Modest jewelry is allowed. An object that has a purpose other than jewelry cannot be worn as jewelry (i.e. animal chains or collars).
4. Tattoos must be covered at all times. Jewelry may not be worn in a piercing other than the ear. No body art: drawing on the skin made by the student with a writing utensil.
5. Makeup must look natural. Black nail polish and lipstick are not acceptable.
6. No undergarments may show at any time. Nor should they be worn as outer garments.
7. Pants must fit the waistline and not sag in the crotch. No holes or tears.
The cuff of the pants may not drag on the ground. Pants may not be excessively baggy or tight nor emphasize any descriptive lines of the body.
8. Shorts must fit the waistline and not sag in the crotch. The cuff of the shorts must be at maximum three inches from the top of the kneecap when sitting, and may go to the kneecap when standing. Spandex or tightly fitting shorts are not allowed.
9. Skirts, dresses and jumpers may not be excessively tight. Skirts and jumpers must be at maximum three inches from the top of the kneecap when sitting, and may go to the kneecap when standing. Jumpers must have a shirt underneath. All dresses must have sleeves.
10. Shirts must have sleeves with a modest neckline. No shirt that is excessively tight or baggy. The Principal or designee will make this call. No holes or tears. Shirts must reach 3 inches below the waistband when arms are raised.
11. Hats and Sunglasses: May only be worn or seen before or after school hours. No hats or sunglasses in class. Hats include visors, hoods and bandannas.
12. Shoes - Required at all times. No slippers. Tennis shoes required for physical education classes.
13. Clothing and jewelry must be gender appropriate. The principal or designee will make this call.
With the understanding that today’s fashions are not always appropriate for school, parents as well as students are required to sign an agreement to support and adhere to the dress codes. The Board of Directors is committed to the mission and philosophy of the school and believes that defining the dress code and requiring the signing of the agreement by parents and students should eliminate any concerns over these codes.
During inclement weather, Xavier Charter School will follow Twin Falls School District directives. Announcements of school closure will be advertised on local TV and/or radio stations.
